We sat down with Yetee artist, K_Duffles, to learn more about the newest additions to her collection on our store and where exactly she gets her unique creative energy from! You can find all of K_Duffles' designs in her dedicated page in the Yeteemart.
Hey there K_Duffles! It's so nice to get a chance to sit down to chat with you! Are you excited to see your newest wave of merch finally hit The Yetee?
...Yeah!
So Hector, he seems like a nice lil' dude... What's the story behind him— did you find him or did he find you?
Believe it or not, I found him while wandering in the woods! He was sleeping in a bush, and when I offered him some granola he came home with me to be my new best friend.
This is your first time designing a knit sweater, right? What was that experience like? Any thoughts on what goes into making The Perfect Sweater Pattern?
Designing for the Real World™ is always as challenging as it is rewarding, and knitwear is no exception. I've never had to make a pattern that can be adjusted dynamically to different sized fabric panels, but the rest of the process is like anything else!
You gotta make something that you'd love to wear, and for this sweater I'm paying homage to all the cozy, funky sweaters that my dad has given to me. Fun, versatile, and simple-- something you could wear on all your silly adventures!
To celebrate the new launch in your collection, we've also selected some of our favorite tees of yours to showcase in a special sale. If you had to recommend one tee for newcomers to your art, which one would you suggest?
Hot Clown Summer is my eternal mood, and I'd recommend it to everyone! It's my simplest design but also one of my strongest, and the tie-dye really evokes summertime vibes. Be Bad is a close second though— I get the most compliments on it when I go out, and it features a very important message!
All you have to do is just take one look at your collection of merch to see your work encompasses such a wide variety of tones and subject. Where do you get your inspiration from when making art?
My three cats (Arya, Koopaloo, and Thomas Gandalf Baloney) are a constant source of inspiration! They're weird yet loveable, and there's a little bit of that energy in all my designs.
Also my husband!!! He's the sweetest human being on the planet, and being goofy with him is the foundation of my entire sense of humor.
Okay, we know we told you in advance there'd be no controversial questions, but in the spirit of journalism, we have to ask... what's your favorite candy to get in your trick or treat bag? And we must remind you, you are under oath.
*A cold wind blows through the damp room. My chair creaks, ominously. I look away, take a long drag of my bubble pipe, and sigh like all the weight of the world is on my shoulders. Maybe it is.*
Mini Kit-Kat.
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, K_Duffles! We know you and Hector are quite busy right now, so we really appreciate hearing some of your thoughts on your work and process.
Thanks for having me!! It's such a joy to work with everyone at The Yetee— I feel immensely privileged to be part of such a supportive group of folks (and to be given so much latitude to design truly unhinged things).
And if anyone reading this has ever wanted to try designing for The Yetee, this is your sign to try it out! Join our community, read the memes, get some feedback; it's a wonderful community, and I'd love to see you in there.
