NTSC-J, or "System J", isΒ the informal name for the analog television standard used in Japan.Β It's based on the US NTSC (NTSC-M) standard, but with some minor differences. NTSC-J was introduced by NHK and NTV, and regular color broadcasts began on September 10, 1960. Digital broadcasts replaced NTSC-J in 44 of Japan's 47 prefectures on July 24, 2011. Analog broadcasting ended in the remaining three prefectures on March 31, 2012.
